We all know that Typhoon Alice in 1966 severely damaged theLight House. Is theLight House be able to send out light now?

When Typhoon Alice hit, the strong wind blew and whiled small pebbles into theLight House by accident. The glass shields were shattered and damaged the main light of theLight House, paralysing it with the inability to send out light. As a result, in November 1966, the platform was installed with a 5 th class light bulb. The bulb makes three consecutive flashes every 15 seconds. The bulb is equivalent to 2600 lit candles. The beam can reach as far as 11 naitical miles away. Later theLight House was suspended because of military concerns, and wasn't reopened until until June 1989.

Except Typhoon Alice, were there any other typhoons that had caused damage to theLight House?

No. The technology then didn't allow us to predict the weather, so greatdamage was made. Later, all of us would prepare everything for the coming of typhoons to minimize the damage. Therefore, there hasn't any typhoon to cause damage to theLight House.

How long is the regular maintenance period of theLight House?

Except general maintenance, the renovation is done once a year.

What do you think of the Centennial of DungyungLight House?

I am glad to be a part of it. Though our workload has increased, we still feelhappy inside. Because there are finally people to share the beauty of theLight House with us.

Will you always be here with us?

I will do this until my retirement. Then I will take my kids here for a visit.
